[ Charles follows, looking hesitant before he places Simon's face from his profile, nodding once they're alone. ]

Hello. [ A little uncertainly. He hesitates a moment before continuing: ] Listen, I'll answer any questions you have. Honestly. I have a few questions of my own.

[Simon is nervous and fidgety, ducking his head and failing to maintain solid eye contact.]

I guess first of all, I should ask... are you a killer?

[ He takes in a steady breath, watching Simon closely. ] No, I'm not. Listen, [ he pauses again here, looking uncomfortable. ] if I ask, I'm sure you'll say the same thing, right?

Not waiting for an answer: ] So I'll ask something else. Before waking up here, did you have anything you would kill to protect?

[He gasps loudly at that.]

Ah! I meant in the... whatever this is supposed to be, the "game!" Like, as in, are you in the MVP group! I wasn't asking if you were actually a killer!

[bacchic]

I know. [ He's patient, not looking altogether ashamed of his question. ] I didn't mean otherwise. I mean—I'm sure they're given an incentive to kill and I don't know if we'll, as a group, get around that. But I don't want to die, do you understand? I can't. I have someone to get back to. So I'm not going to let either of us die. I want to be able to trust you.

[He considers that for a moment, and then visibly relaxes.]

...I'm a little glad to hear that. I feel the exact same way.

Listen, I'm not a VIP. I know you said I'd say that, but I wouldn't unless it were true. And if you are, I hope you can trust me enough to tell me, because right now it's you and me against the world.

[bacchic]

[ He holds his gaze for another long moment before nodding. ]

Alright, I'm going to trust you. But I don't trust anyone else. If you lie to me, we both die, so I'll tell you everything I find out. But look, though I'm not a VIP, I'm not going to die to protect anyone else here, either.

I'm so, so relieved to hear that. If you were a heroic martyr type or had a lot of close friends running around, I think I'd have died of fright right on the spot. But as it is, I feel like we can get along.

[bacchic]

I think so, too. So let me know what you can and we'll work together, to get out of this. Is there anything else you want to know?

Hm... not really. If you had something solid, you've have said so already, right? And it's too personal to ask about the person you're going back to, so...

Not yet. But I'll let you know what I do find out, keeping you in the dark will only get us both killed. Will you do the same?
